In a statement, the Center for Independent Association and Authorities (CSIF) demanded the expansion of Tax Office staff to strengthen the fight against tax evasion and the informal economy during the recently launched 2022 Revenue Campaign.

As such, the union explained that the Revenue Campaign has shifted large numbers of workers into customer service positions and “substantially” reduced staff dedicated to fighting tax evasion.

In addition, CSIF has estimated that Spanish Taxation administrations have a staff shortage of 5,000 employees compared to the average staff of the major European economies.

The union insisted on the need to create a “Fiscal Police” arising from the existing Customs Surveillance Service to help prevent tax evasion and the “significant” damage it does to the financing of public services.

On the other hand, CSIF assured that it will continue to demand salary increases, more mobility and the possibility of partial early retirement for Tax Office employees.
