About 80% of the poorest people in France are forced to save on food due to rising food prices. This was reported by the French TV channel. BMF TV.
Ifop’s survey of 1,007 people, representing the poorest third of the country’s population, found that 42% of the country’s poorest people gave up food to save money. At the same time, 79% of respondents reported a reduction in their food intake. It was noted that representatives of all vulnerable categories, as well as slightly wealthier citizens – “yellow vests” were forced to “tighten their belts”.
“They don’t need to reduce the amount of food at all meals, but it happens regularly,” said Jérôme Fourquet, public opinion director of Ifop.
It was noted that citizens tended to cut their spending on basic foodstuffs after all other spending cut opportunities were exhausted.
While total annual inflation in France was 5.6%, food prices increased by 15% throughout the year.
