Ivanna Kurguzova, a resident of the village of Klyuchi, told Gazeta.ru that after the night eruption and ash fall of the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka, dirty water flowed from the taps. According to him, people go to the central square of the village for clean water and there it is distributed to everyone by the army.

“The water is cloudy, the filters are not coping. Now the soldier stands in the square in the middle of the village and distributes water. The district head also ordered 5 tons of water, which should soon be distributed and organized to local residents. Everyone is advised to stay at home, there is a smell of sulfur on the street. The ash cloud dissipated, about 12 cm of ash fell,” he said.

Another resident of Klyuchi, Victoria Shatskikh, said ash is still falling on the village and nearby settlements.

“We live in a military town near the village of Klyuchi, 37 kilometers from the volcano. How long have I lived here in 22 years, it’s the first time such a powerful explosion. Everything was covered with ashes, it roared so terribly. No noise or hum now. Unfortunately, the volcano does not look cloudy. The ashes are still falling. Today, the children’s polyclinic, MFC does not work. Schoolchildren were transferred to 10 days of distance education. The kindergarten will work in groups on duty until April 20. I have a small child, I will not even take him to the garden tomorrow. I will run to work myself, leave my son and grandmother. I am worried that she does not have allergies, ”Victoria explained.

Shiveluch volcano became active on the night of April 11, after which ashfall began in the nearest settlements. Ashfall in the Kamchatka village of Klyuchi was the strongest in 60 years, according to the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The last time such a large amount of ash fell on Klyuchi was recorded in 1964. The volcanic eruption was given a red aviation hazard code.
