Interdependence – a condition in which an alcoholic is involved in his wife’s illness and takes responsibility for her – often has concomitant diseases, Larisa Mazurova, an employee of the Tomsk NIMC Research Institute of Mental Health, told Gazeta.ru.
“From my experience and scientific research, it is clear that neurotic disorders are common – irritability, nervousness, emotional instability. If these problems are not resolved, they turn into psychosomatic diseases, cardiovascular problems, blood pressure problems, oncological diseases of the female organs and gastrointestinal tract,” he said.
According to the psychologist, it is precisely because of the rejection of the problem that the woman will not be able to realize that there is something wrong with her. Often this is noticed by a stranger.
“There are certain signs of addiction. This is a denial of the problems themselves, their presence in themselves, their degree of severity, their connection with some external behavioral manifestations. Also, these are the so-called “frozen” emotions – a narrowing of the spectrum and a decrease in the intensity of experienced and manifested emotions, ”said Mazurova.
