Hypospadias is a congenital malformation in which the structure of the male genital organs is disrupted. The displacement of the urethra, urethra and urethral passage makes it impossible to maintain a normal sex life – there are problems with ejaculation and erection, Andrey Dmitriev, a urologist at the Remedi Institute of Reproductive Medicine, told socialbites.ca.
“The degree of hypospadias varies. The urethra may be slightly displaced or located on the surface of the penis. These are mild forms, with severe ones they may be located in the urethral outlet, scrotum or perineum. Of course, hypospadias affects the sexual life of men and depends entirely on the severity of this disease. In some cases, sexual intercourse is impossible due to the deformation of the organ, but sometimes the reason lies in mental problems, ”said Dmitriev.
This disease can be caused by hormonal therapy during pregnancy, environmental factors, the presence of hereditary diseases in close relatives. In addition, hypospadias can develop in premature babies, as well as in those born to very young mothers, or, conversely, in women over 35-40 years old.
According to the urologist, the treatment of this disease can only be surgical. Depending on the type of hypospadias, the volume of surgical intervention is selected, as it can be combined with the curvature of the penis.
“The intervention is optimally carried out at 1-3 years of age. It is important to note that circumcision is not recommended with such a pathology: doctors use skin from the foreskin to correct defects during the operation, ”explained the specialist.
