American entrepreneur Elon Musk will arrive in China on Saturday, April 8, and likely visit the Tesla factory in Shanghai. It has been reported Bloomberg with reference to sources.
As the trip has not been officially announced, Bloomberg sources noted that plans could change. Musk will reportedly be accompanied by Tom Zhu, who was named Tesla’s senior vice president of automobiles in April. Zhu has been leading the construction and operation of the Tesla factory in Shanghai since 2014.
China is Tesla’s second largest market after the United States, and sales in China account for 22.3% of the company’s revenue in 2022. Tesla announced in March that it was expanding production at its subsidiary in China.
It was previously reported that Musk plans to visit China in April amid the problems of Tesla and other companies in China. It has been announced that Tesla is currently facing several challenges in China, including difficulties in implementing its plans to more than double its production capacity at its Shanghai facility. Tesla vehicles are banned from entering Chinese military installations and political gathering areas due to local authorities’ concerns about the cameras installed in the vehicles.
