In Russia, a platinum-based organic phosphorus with high energy efficiency was obtained. This was reported by the press service of the RNF.

Modern display manufacturers are switching to OLED technology, which are organic-based light-emitting diodes. They are distinguished by high brightness, color saturation, but they are not always energy efficient – usually only a quarter of the electrical power goes to radiation. This not only generates unnecessary heat, but also consumes battery life, which is especially important for mobile devices.

Now St. Petersburg State University are working on organometallic phosphors based on acyclic diaminocarbenes, which in the future will make it possible to bring energy efficiency closer to 100%. The synthesized substance consists of a combination of a platinum atom and organic fragments. Russian scientists have applied a promising method of synthesis, in which a metal-containing compound is initially formed, and the final modification of the organic part occurs directly in this compound, which ensures the stability of the molecule during the assembly process. This made it possible to obtain a previously inaccessible type of light emitters with improved characteristics.

The synthesized phosphor glows green when a current is passed through it. To conduct experiments, the scientists collected organic light-emitting diode models, using matter as a light-emitting layer. The invention showed high stability: even when the voltage changed, the light remained stable, and the device did not overheat during operation. Experimental samples showed a brightness 1.5 times higher than their closest counterparts. Scientists have also found that the brightness turns white if the design of the LED is changed. This makes it possible to use the phosphor in the production of both green and white light sources.

Now scientists plan to synthesize similar structures that emit red and blue colors. This will allow the creation of highly energy efficient full color RGB displays.

Earlier astronomers still radio waves produced by the exoplanet’s magnetic field.
