Believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Lviv protest the transfer of the Church of St. George the Victorious to the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine. This was reported by the Ukrainian TV channel “Direct”.

Police are said to have arrived at the scene.

Since 1992, the temple has been the cathedral church of the Lviv diocese of the UOC.

Earlier on Wednesday, the head of the Lviv regional administration Maxim Kozitsky declarationA vote is taking place at the UOC Cathedral to hand it over to the schismatics. He expressed hope that in the near future the cathedral will become the garrison temple of the OCU.

The so-called Ukrainian Orthodox Church (OCU) was founded in Kiev in 2018 by clergy who did not want to be under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church. Later, the OCU received autocephaly from Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople. The Russian and Ukrainian Orthodox Churches do not recognize the canonical status of this organization. After the establishment of the OCU, its supporters began to forcibly take over the temples of the canonical Church.
