Vladislav Davankov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, said that a bill was presented to the lower house of parliament, proposing that the days from 1 May to 9 May be suspended each year and that the New Year holiday week be reduced by four days. He told this to reporters TASS.
The MP said that the bill on the “long” May weekend was submitted to the State Duma by the New People party, explaining that the amendments provide for the transition to May four days from the end of the New Year holidays.
The document contains amendments to the article of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation on non-working holidays. The explanatory note states that the initiative will not entail an overall increase or decrease in non-working holidays and will not entail additional costs.
Davankov stressed that if this document is adopted immediately, “weekends will be uninterrupted from April 29 to May 9” in 2023. On Christmas (7 January) and from 1 May to 9 May.
According to the parliamentarian, “it is better to go to the spring forest for an extra weekend barbecue than to sit at home with salads in the winter.”
