There is a need to create a single body in Russia that will collect all information on war veterans, their families and their needs, undertake the function of coordinating the activities of authorized ministries and departments to provide various types of support to fighters. therefore, the decision of the President of Russia to establish a state fund to support those who participated in a special military operation is a necessary initiative. This was expressed in an interview with socialbites.ca by Valery Burkov, Hero of the Soviet Union, who participated in the war in Afghanistan, Monk Cyprian, now residing in the world in the Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery.
“Since the war in Afghanistan, the issue of creating a special department for veterans in our country has come to the fore. For example, in the United States, after the end of the Vietnam War, the US Department of Veterans Affairs was created, ”says the clergyman.
Valery Burkov recalls that last year the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, announced the creation of the Federal Agency for Veterans Affairs. But in the end, the initiative took the form of such a project – state funding to support participants in the special operation “Defenders of the Fatherland”, he notes.

Recall that on April 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the creation of a state fund to support the participants in the special operation, which will be called “Defenders of the Fatherland”. The relevant document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
The text of the decree states that the fund was created “to ensure the decent life and vigorous activity of those participating in a special military operation, other persons and members of their families.”
