Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan topped the rankings of more than a million cities in terms of urban environmental quality for 2022. Deputy head of the Ministry of Construction Alexei Yeresko briefed reporters on this, reports DEA News.
The Ministry of Construction calculates the urban environment quality index annually based on 36 indicators: amenities, state of public transport, road safety, quality of public spaces and others.
At the end of last year, Moscow 299, St. Petersburg – 264, Kazan – 216, Nizhny Novgorod – 214 and Rostov-on-Don – 212 points.
Yeresko noted that the biggest increase compared to 2021 is observed in indicators such as green spaces (+18%) and the creation of attraction centers (+16%).
The deputy head of the ministry emphasized that according to the increase in scores characterizing the quality of the urban environment, Verkhneuralsk (+39), Nartkala (+35) and Usinsk (+35) are the leaders.
The TOP-5 cities with a population of 250 thousand to 1 million people, with the most comfortable urban environment, included Grozny, Tyumen, Sochi, Belgorod and Kaliningrad.
