In the photos taken by the journalists of the publication, garbage is scattered in the buildings where the soldiers of the most famous army regiments – Coldstream, Grenadiers, Irish, Scottish and Welsh Guards – live, dirt and mold reign in the toilet rooms.
“Wellington Barracks is absolutely filthy, but it looks great from the outside. Tourists stop at the door to take pictures but they won’t believe what life is inside the soldiers.
The soldiers said they were treated as “garbage” and were “at the bottom of the food chain”. One of the soldiers also said that they stopped complaining because their comments were simply ignored.
Wellington Barracks was built in the 1830s and is estimated to house around 500 soldiers from five regiments.
