Believers sing hymns in the square in front of the cathedral at the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

According to the page of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) on social networks, believers gathered in the square in front of the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Cross in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and sang hymns.

Participants were recorded holding up posters with words in support of the Lavra monks.

Earlier, several people in black wool began to line up near the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on the afternoon of April 2. This was expressed by representatives of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

It turned out that several dozen people began to line up in a column, not moving anywhere.

At the same time, there are quite a lot of people near the Lavra, police officers are on duty.

The situation around the monastery escalated after the UOC monks refused to leave the monastery’s walls at the request of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra reserve directorate. On March 30, a commission came to the monastery to check the safety of cultural properties.

On April 1, a Kiev court issued a preventive measure in the form of house arrest for two months and a ban on addressing believers to the governor of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
