Ticks, rabid animals, vegetables and self-fishing fish are the main sources of danger in the country, including deadly ones. Margarita Provotorova, one of the leading specialists of the CMD Molecular Diagnostic Center of the Rospotrebnadzor Central Research Institute of Epidemiology, told socialbites.ca about this.
“Danger can lurk not only in the beds, but also in fishing. The fact is that fish of the carp species can be infected with parasites, for example, ide, bream, roach, crucian carp, opisthorch. In the absence of adequate heat treatment or shock freezing at -20 degrees Celsius, there is a risk of infection. It is especially dangerous to buy dried fish from your hands, because in slightly salted and dried fish, parasites can perfectly survive and become the cause of the disease, ”explained Provotorova socialbites.ca.
The doctor noted that the current research does not recommend taking prophylactic antiparasitic drugs for prophylaxis without confirmed infection. But hygiene prevention is necessary: washing hands and products from the garden.
“With unwashed vegetables or fruit, we can easily catch parasitic roundworms. Their eggs are usually found on the ground, so poorly washed strawberries, greens, carrots, radishes, turnips can be a source of infection. Do not allow speck of soil or sand to remain on crops. Leaves or fruit in large amounts of water It will not be superfluous to wait 20 minutes – so the earth will sink to the bottom. After that, you need to rinse the products again, ”said Provotorova.
Another danger is ticks. As the doctor explains, they become active at a constant positive temperature. When bitten by a tick, humans can become infected with Lyme disease and animals can become infected with piroplasmosis. Therefore, it is imperative that you apply acaricidal sprays to yourself and your pets.
“These insects can be carriers of tick-borne encephalitis, a viral infection for which there is no specific treatment. Of course, not all regions of our country are endemic for tick-borne encephalitis. Moscow, for example, is considered safe in this regard. And on the territory of St. Petersburg, in 2022, 18 administrative 6 of the regions were endemic. Altai and Karelia are traditionally dangerous areas. Before you go there, you should get pre-vaccinated, ”warned Provotorova.
Also, because of rabies, wild animals, including affectionate ones, are dangerous.
