The Security Service of Ukraine reported that since 2022, 61 criminal cases have been opened against clergy of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This was reported on SBU’s official Telegram channel.
During this time, more than 40 “complex counterintelligence measures” were carried out in connection with the UOC. In total, the courts handed down seven sentences against seven clergy.
According to the SBU, about 250 clergy of the UOC were banned from entering the territory of Ukraine, 17 representatives of the church were sanctioned.
Last December, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the introduction of new sanctions against representatives of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). According to the document, religious organizations “affiliated to centers of influence in the Russian Federation” will be banned in Ukraine.
