Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed), deputy of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, said in court that he was not guilty of anything and that the criminal prosecution against him was of a political nature. This was reported by the Ukrainian edition of “Ukrainian Truth”.

“I didn’t do anything to be accused of anything. This is a political issue,” he said.

Earlier it was known that Metropolitan Pavel. parole Suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: “incitement of inter-religious hatred” and “justify armed aggression of the Russian Federation”.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church noted that this was due to the Metropolitan’s statements regarding the separatist Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Patriarchate of Constantinople, and his reluctance to leave the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
