300 electromagnetic calorimeter modules were delivered from China to Russia for installation on the NICA collider. This was reported by the JINR press service.
NICA is a giant collider in the final stages of construction. After the opening, it will be the most powerful experimental facility in Russia for research in the field of high energy physics. At the same time, direct comparison with the LHC and other large accelerators is incorrect due to other missions and other experimental parameters.
“An electromagnetic calorimeter, or ECAL, is a device that measures the energy of electromagnetic particles: electrons, positrons, and photons. A total of 2,400 ECAL modules are required for MPD at NICA. Chinese colleagues from five Tsinghua University leading centers with experience in this field participated in ECAL production for MPD NICA. In Russia, another 800 modules were produced by the Tenzor instrument factory in Dubna and two enterprises in Moscow and Protvino. Chinese experts are expected to produce another 400 modules. The same number of modules will be produced in Moscow and Protvino, and this work has already begun.”
Tsinghua University is a long-term partner of the NICA project and has been involved in the project almost since its inception. A total of about 20 scientific organizations from China are involved in the project.
Earlier astronomers discovered extragalactic flow of cold gas.
