The pursuit of gold isn’t something relegated to the old West two centuries ago, but it’s still perfectly valid. What is not so often now is that a simple amateur, equipped with a simple metal detector for 700 euros, manages to find it. Gold bar weighing not less than 4.6 kilos.
It happened in the state of Victoria (Australia), which, according to experts, is still called the Golden Triangle, which contains more than two million kilograms of gold.
It all started when a citizen with a conventional metal detector searched the area and suddenly found a very special rock. He unearthed a nearly 5-pound piece and passed it on to an appraiser specializing in this type of metal, Darren Kamp, owner of the Lucky Strike Gold store.
The camp said it often received visitors like this, but it had never seen a rock like this before. 4.6 kilos, 2.6 of which is pure gold. “I was speechless when I got it,” this professional told CNN, and did not reveal the identity of the explorer.
“I’ve never seen a rock of this size containing so much gold before. In it; “This is a once-in-a-lifetime discovery.”
The author of the discovery split the rock in two and took one of them to the Darren Kamp store mentioned earlier. However, the stone was dirty and did not seem to contain that much gold at first. When he washed it, he realized the immense value of that piece. The explorer asked Kamp if he could get 10,000 Australian dollars (about 6,000 euros) and he said he could easily earn 100,000. Actually, When calculating the value of the two halves, it was set at 240,000 Australian dollars, or approximately 150,000 Euros.
Since the device used by this fan costs only 740 Euros (a model called the Minelab Equinox 800), the investment has paid off. The discovery was made at the end of December, but so far Darren Kamp has revealed the facts.
Australia is considered the country with the largest gold reserves in the world.. In the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the gold rush began in Australia and important finds were made, especially in the Victoria region.
