The decision to hold a referendum on renaming Volgograd to Stalingrad can be taken by the city’s authorities and residents after the May holidays. He said this in an interview DEA News Alexander Strukov, Chairman of the Volgograd City Veterans Council.
On 27 March, to examine the views on the renaming of the city, the People’s Council began holding meetings with representatives of the local community to find out what the townspeople thought of the idea of holding a referendum and renaming itself.
Strukov noted that the public opinion poll will continue, but that no one will put pressure on the citizens.
“We will probably get clarity on the referendum somewhere after the May holiday. I am sure that the referendum will not depend on the election campaign, on the Single Vote Day, it will most likely be held later, if appropriate, ”said the veterans mayor.
Previously reportedHe said that the majority of Volgograd residents surveyed preferred the city’s current name, 18% would prefer Stalingrad and 5% would prefer its pre-revolutionary name, Tsaritsyn.
