At the request of their parents, a criminal case was opened regarding missing children. The schoolchildren reported that they went for a walk together the day before, but never returned home.

On the morning of March 30, the bodies of 8- and 11-year-old boys were found in the waters of the Gulf of Finland near Vasilyevsky Island. There are no known signs of violent death on them.

According to some reports, one of the victims had roller skates with him. Presumably the children got on and fell on the thin ice, but could no longer get out on their own.

Currently, UK investigators are questioning witnesses and eyewitnesses of the incident. To determine the exact cause of death of the victims, a forensic examination was appointed.
