Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the tragic death of the Russian army on January 1 in Makeevka (DPR) shocked all of Russia. He said this in a meeting with Dmitry Azarov, the Governor of the Samara region, TASS reported.

Highlighting the tragedy in his official report, he said it was “a heavy blow and a test” for the entire Samara region.

“The whole country is worried,” Putin said.

Also, Azarov told the president about the actions of regional authorities after the incident. Already on January 2, a regional headquarters was created, and on January 3, the procedure for interaction with the RF Ministry of Defense was established. On January 4, Azarov and Deputy Minister of Defense Viktor Goremykin went to Rostov-on-Don, visiting wounded soldiers who survived in hospitals.

“We also reached Makeyevka, as some of the soldiers served in city hospitals. We talked to people. “We agreed that they want to be treated in the Samara military hospital, on the territory of Samara,” he said.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that on January 1, 2023, 89 Russian soldiers were killed as a result of the missile attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the temporary deployment point in Makeyevka. Most were mobilized from the Samara region.

The military department said that the fact that soldiers began to search for relatives and friends en masse on New Year’s Eve facilitated the death of the military. The Russian Ministry of Defense added that the army of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “calculated from the increased cellular activity” the location of the inhabitants of Samara and shot from the HIMARS MLRS.

On January 6, the first plane with 45 wounded soldiers landed in Samara. Already on January 8, the second board came. On the same day, the first funeral was held in Togliatti – two mobilized dead employees of AvtoVAZ were buried in the city cemetery.

The district authorities took a number of support measures for the families of wounded and dead soldiers – in addition to a one-time payment of 1.3 million rubles to the families of the deceased, they will receive additional payments to their pensions. It covers housing rental or maintenance costs, provides psychological and legal assistance for half of the fuel cost free of charge.

There was some bureaucratic bureaucracy – 63.RU reported on February 25 that the mobilized corporal, who came under fire on January 1 in Makeevka, could not receive assistance from the region due to the absence of a certificate of injury from the Rostov hospital.

“After the bombardment in Makiivka, Nikolay developed headaches, dizziness and tinnitus, and his hearing worsened. In the documents they wrote to him “a situationally determined asthenic condition. Therefore, Semenov was declared unfit for 30 days of military service,” the article states.

Governor Azarov also talked about the situation in AvtoVAZ, the main institution of the region, during his meeting with Putin and said that he plans to run for a new term in the upcoming governorship elections.
