A two-year-old British cat named Khan was found under the rubble of an 11-storey building that collapsed after the second earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 on February 6 in the Onikishubat district of Maraş. The owner of the pet and his daughter managed to get out of the building after the first earthquake, but the women could not save Khan.

Left without a roof over her head, the Turkish woman lived next to the ruins of her home for about 40 more days, hoping that Khan survived and could be found. While the woman was almost giving up hope, the owner of the building found her cat trying to get the kitchen utensils out from under the rubble.

Khan is currently undergoing treatment: the cat is severely dehydrated and has a broken paw. But the vet hopes the animal can be saved.
