Counterfeit products are a serious problem of our time. This was expressed by Alexander Malkevich, head of the working group of the Civil Chamber of the Russian Federation on the fight against the spread of misinformation, public control and Internet security.
In his opinion, they can sow panic, anxiety, become a threat to the safety and health of citizens. He stressed that ignoring the large-scale distribution of fakes is unacceptable.
“This is why the state is actively tackling the problem at the legislative level. At the same time, the state and society faced the problem of unreliable information, not today, but yesterday. Legal safeguards against fraud have been developed over several years based on current information challenges and facts,” Malkevich said.
He believes that the state is responsible for ensuring the security of its citizens in the digital space. In his view, the widespread dissemination of counterfeit products is the real threat that must be countered promptly and effectively, including at the legislative level.
“Finishing foreign IT companies for disseminating and not removing fake information is a natural step for the regulator: not a single digital company has the right to neglect the security of its Russian users. They are obliged to make a profit in the Russian market, comply with the law and ensure the digital rights of Russians, ”the expert is confident.
Malkevich emphasized that the state not only has the right to demand the enforcement of Russian laws and remove misinformation from foreign online platforms, but also must do so.
In addition, the expert selected the work of public organizations and the working group on the protection of the rights of Internet users, headed by the RF OP.
“All these years we have worked hand in hand with Ekaterina Mizulina and several of our colleagues to support public initiatives in the law, including fake laws. “In our view, one of the biggest challenges right now is to provide schoolchildren, students and mature people with high-quality education in the fundamentals of information security and Internet hygiene, including recognizing and countering fraud.”
