According to the agency, the pirates boarded the ship. All communication channels with the tanker are now disabled.
A Monjasa spokesperson added that all 16 crew members were able to take shelter in a safe area on board.
The ship was reportedly attacked on Saturday about 140 miles west of Port Pointe Noire in the Republic of the Congo. The ship is managed by Dubai-based Montec Ship Management, owned by Monjasa. The tanker was carrying oil and chemicals.
Montec spokesmen reported a pirate attack on a naval cooperation center operated by the British and French navies.
