March in the Urals and Siberia this year can be called anomalous due to the penetration of warm air masses there. The snow there melted a month earlier than usual. This was said by the Honored Meteorologist of the Russian Federation, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand.
During the second decade of March, and even from the end of the first decade, very warm air masses came from the Atlantic to the Urals and Siberia. They caused the snow cover to melt so early almost a month ago. This is a rare case, ”the scientist told Ura.ru.
Also in these regions the temperature regime was above average for this time of year. Warm air from the southern latitudes of the Atlantic entered there for quite some time, so the temperature was 8-12 degrees above normal, notes life.ru. Additionally, precipitation was added, which, coupled with rising temperatures, caused accelerated snowmelt.
