He noted that Russia today has three main consumers of ice breaking services – Norilsk Nickel, Novatek and Rosneft.

“The width of the body of the icebreaker and the width of the channel that should be in the ice are important considerations. Because every investor plans his ship according to the channel that the icebreaker can lay,” said Kulinko.

The second consideration is the power and range of the icebreakers. According to Kulinko, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is also actively involved in the development of new icebreakers.

In particular, the possibilities of both the domestic industry and the possibilities of attracting the competencies of foreign shipyards are being investigated. Especially Turkey and China.

Kulinko added that it is important to understand the economics and timing of construction so that there are enough icebreakers to meet targets for transporting the NSR by 2030.
