In 2022, the number of insured persons under VHI decreased by 5 million, following the statistics presented by the Central Bank of the newspaper “News”.

At the same time, the volume of policy premiums increased by 6.9% to 213.7 billion rubles. This is due to the increase in medical service and drug costs, according to the Central Bank’s supplies.

The biggest players did not record a decrease in the number of those insured under VHI, but confirmed such a trend in the market.

Olga Rumyantseva, chief personal insurance insurer at Absolute Insurance, said this was mainly due to the departure of foreign companies from Russia, which see such policies as a mandatory part of the social package.

Mark Sanevich, co-founder of BestDoctor medical service, added that another reason is the reduction in the number of travel policies for travel abroad due to flight restrictions and rising prices.

Previously reportedthat insurance against serious illnesses is mostly given by Russians aged 30-45.
