Millions of years later, a new ocean may form in Africa. Indian newspaper writes about it Economic Times.
The assumption of scientists at the University of Leeds is based on the 2005 discovery of the East African Fault in the Ethiopian deserts, whose length is more than 56 km.
“This is the only place you can study how a continental fault turns into an oceanic fault,” said university doctoral student Christopher Moore.
According to him, similar tectonic shifts were observed during the formation of the Red Sea between Africa and the Arabian Peninsula and the Gulf of Aden between East Africa and West Asia.
It is recorded that the formation of a new ocean that will divide Africa into two will only take place after millions of years.
