The race of “superfoods” – goji berries, acai and other products does not make sense: raspberries and black currants grown in the garden are not inferior to them in the content of useful flavonoid substances. Margarita Provotorova, one of the leading specialists of the CMD Molecular Diagnostic Center of the Rospotrebnadzor Central Research Institute of Epidemiology, told socialbites.ca about this.

Perceived as “superfoods”, advertised for the territory of Russia, chlorella, goji berries, chia seeds remain exotic. At the same time, they do not have any magical properties for our body. Vitamins, trace elements, fiber – this is the composition of any superfood anywhere in the world. And the same “vitamin bombs” are growing in your dacha, “said Margarita Provotorova socialbites.ca.

As the doctor noted, the benefits of berries are largely due to the content of flavonoids – dyes that protect cells from aging-promoting free radicals. Flavonoids are found in all fruits, but record holders for their content are raspberries, blueberries, blueberries and black currants.

“Turning to scientific research, we find that the notorious goji and acai are not even leaders in their flavonoid and antioxidant content. Therefore, do not look for any superfoods. The main thing is diversity. The more fruits and vegetables in our diet, the more different colors on our plates, the better for health,” explains Provotorova.
