American investor Michael Calvey, who received a suspended sentence for embezzlement of 2.5 billion rubles, plans to return to Russia to consider his complaint about the decision if he gets a visa. It has been reported DEA News with reference to the entrepreneur’s lawyer, Timofey Gridnev.
“Calvey plans to come to the meeting, but it is difficult to get a visa given current events. If he gets it, he’ll come,” explained Calvey’s defender.
The lawyer of his partner, Frenchman Philippe Delpal, said that he will come if he receives the necessary documents.
On April 21, the Moscow City Court will consider appeals against the decision.
It was previously known that Calvey and his partner Philippe Delpalp. left Russia soon after the court lifted a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions from them in early 2022.
In August 2021, the capital’s Meshchansky Court sentenced all defendants in the Baring Vostok investment fund case, which was accused of embezzlement, to suspension. Then Calvey received 5.5 years probation, another person involved – Delpal – 4.5 years probation.
