Renat Karchaa, adviser to the general director of the Rosenergoatom concern, said that the weakening of the Russian military presence in Energodar will lead to the capture of the city and the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZAES) by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He said this on the broadcast of the TV channel “Russia 24”.

Karchaa’s words were a comment on the IAEA chief’s decision to lift the issue of demilitarization of the area around the ZNPP. The expert noted that Russia still supports the cessation of any bombardment of the ZNPP and Energodar.

“During the negotiation process, we moved away from unrealistic, non-working conditions that prevented the realization of a mechanism to establish a security zone,” Karchaa said.

The expert also commented on Kiev’s threat to cut off the last backup Dnieper transmission line, calling it “another blow to the nuclear safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.” According to him, if the Ukrainian authorities take this step, the station will have to switch to diesel generators.

Former IAEA chief Rafael Grossi declarationThe creation of a demilitarized zone around the ZNPP is no longer considered.
