Ministry of Culture of Ukraine: Kiev wants to deprive UOC of the right to use churches in Chernigov and Pochaev

Ukrainian Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko said the country’s authorities are working to deprive the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) of its right to use churches in Chernihiv and Pochaev. He said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

“In addition to the Lower Lavra, our agreements on the use of property in Chernigov and in one of the churches in Pochaev have expired,” Tkachenko said.

According to him, now in Kiev they are working on the termination of relevant agreements and the signing of acceptance certificates.

Regarding the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Tkachenko noted that the Ukrainian authorities discussed the issue of service and the continuation of religious life there.
