Vitaly Mironicev, a representative of the Roscosmos state company, said that by 2029 it is planned to deploy an orbital constellation of four Arktika-M satellites. This was expressed by Mironichev at a meeting with representatives of executive authorities on the specifics of the execution of applications for satellite images, reports TASS.
“It will continuously monitor the Arctic region from two angles, including the Northern Sea Route.”
The first Arktika-M satellite was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome on February 28, 2021. The launch of Arktika-M No.2 is expected in 2023. Satellites will have to provide continuous and reliable communication, as well as 24-hour monitoring of the Earth’s surface and Arctic Ocean seas in all weather conditions.
Earlier, state company Roscosmos reported that the Russian satellite relay Luch-5X, launched by a Proton-M rocket from the Baikonur cosmodrome on the night of March 13, was launched into rear orbit. Roskosmos stated that the Luch-5X will help develop modern relay and communication technologies.
