A 71-year-old Honduran African died this Tuesday from a sting by a swarm of bees. Local media reported that he was in a community in the Honduran Caribbean. According to the brief report on the case, this is Víctor Manuel Rodríguez, who died of severe bites at a medical center in the Atlántida department in the Honduran Caribbean. Rodríguez, a topographer by profession, was attacked by insects in a neighborhood of La Ceiba city, also known as “Ceibita la bella” and “La novia de Honduras”.
“He had bites all over his body, we couldn’t do anything to save him,” the victim’s nephew, Marco Antonio Zúñiga, told reporters. The researcher and his nephew, “a warehouse and there was a beehive nearby, my uncle didn’t notice and then he couldn’t escape of them,” he explained.
Fire crews arrived at the location where the incident was recorded to clear them of insects, also known as “African” or “killer” bees.
