At the next meeting of the European Council, several EU countries, led by Estonia, plan to present an initiative to supply one million cannonballs to Kiev by the end of the year. These release reports handelsblatt with reference to an upcoming document.
“Concerns over the combat readiness of the Ukrainian army have reached the highest political level in the EU: several countries led by Estonia are trying to supply Ukraine with one million shells by the end of the year,” the newspaper writes. A draft document scheduled to be presented at the next meeting of the Council of Europe.
The publication also emphasized that the final version of the document can be changed.
Earlier, it was reported that EU countries are close to completing work on an agreement to replenish Ukraine’s declining stocks of ammunition. We’re talking about a 2 billion euro deal, the scheme of the deal is quickly developed in response to calls from Ukraine in recent weeks to supply more ammunition, especially the 155mm shells it desperately needs.
Before that, Josep Borrell, Head of the Foreign Policy Service of the European Union suggested Allocate € 1 billion from the so-called European Peace Fund for urgent needs for the supply of ammunition to Ukraine.
