Yuriy Ignat, adviser to the Air Force (AF) command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that the Soviet-style MiG-29 multi-role fighters promised by Poland are unlikely to help achieve special modifications on the battlefield. He announced this on the air of the Rada TV channel, reports DEA News.
As the consultant noted, these fighters have undergone some upgrades to comply with NATO standards, including GPS-navigator, communication system, friend-foe system. At the same time, he emphasized that the rest of these MiG-29s remained Soviet.
“It is unlikely that any special changes will be made on the front. “We need modern multi-purpose aircraft to gain air superiority,” he said.
On March 15, Piotr Müller, spokesman for the Polish government, said that Ukraine’s will receive MiG-29 fighters from several countries. Prior to that, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that the country could send MiG-29s to Ukraine in the near future.
