A three-hour magnetic storm has been recorded on Earth, according to IKI RAS and ISTP SB RAS’s Laboratory for Solar Astronomy and Heliophysical Instrumentation.
According to experts, this is the second magnetic storm in the last two days. Both belong to the G1 category – the weakest storms correspond to this level.
However, storms can still disrupt their operations by negatively affecting electronic devices, satellites and electrical grids. As the scientists explain, such storms are caused by changes in the solar wind (a stream of charged particles constantly blown from the Sun) that disrupts the planet’s magnetic field.
