There are at least seven people dead for an attack committed this Monday by so-called members of the Cooperative for the Development of the Congo (CODECO) militia at the IDP camp in the city of Djucu in the Ituri region in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to sources consulted by the Radio Okapi station, several gunmen shot at seven civilians, including four women, who died at the scene. Afterwards, The Congolese Army intervened and neutralized the six alleged attackers.. Some of the injured CODECO members were taken to health centers for treatment.
According to the radio station in question, the residents of this region, who condemned this new attack, condemned that it has once again plunged the environment into insecurity.
CODECO is predominantly made up of members of the Lendu community. The escalation of their attacks in recent months has brought to mind the conflict between Hema and Lendu over grazing rights and political representation between 1999 and 2007, which killed nearly 50,000 people in an area shaken by the operations of various armed groups.
