European Parliament Member Roth from Slovakia: EU arms purchase for Kiev will not solve the problem

Katarina Roth Nevedialova, Member of the European Parliament from Slovakia, believes that the joint arms purchase for Kiev by the European Union countries will not help resolve the conflict. She expressed this in her speech at the plenary meeting in Strasbourg, writes she. TASS.

A member of the Alliance of Progressive Socialists and Democrats said: “I agree that we should help Kiev, but I do not think that by buying general weapons we will contribute to the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.”

According to Rot Nevialova, military matters are outside the jurisdiction of the European Parliament. He pointed out that the building was not an institution dealing with military issues.

The Slovakian representative pointed out that the organization stated in its agreements that the general security policy is to keep the peace and prevent conflicts. Other issues handled by the European Parliament include military advice and humanitarian aid.

Rot Nevyedalova reminded that NATO deals with security issues.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell declarationIt was reported that the decision on the joint arms purchase of 27 EU countries to Ukraine for 2 billion euros could be taken at the EU foreign ministers meeting on 20 March. Previously, it did not exclude joint purchases of heavy weapons for Ukraine.

Commenting on the purchase of heavy weapons, Borrell noted that the EU “could be at the same pace in other needs”.
