Analysts of the MTS ecosystem analyzed how passenger traffic on the Moscow Metro changed after the opening of the Big Circle Line (BCL), and identified the top 10 stations in terms of growth and decline, the company’s press service reported.
MTS announced that the study was based on the number of mobile internet users. For comparison, two identical working days were taken before the opening of the new line and after normal operation.
Analysts concluded that metro passenger traffic increased by 3%, or 250,000 passengers, after the opening of the BCL, as new routes emerged and the average time spent on the metro decreased. The company experts attributed the increase in the number of passengers to the fact that most of the people living in areas that did not have a metro station before, prefer the most suitable means of transportation by choosing to travel from the metro to the land and by private vehicle. MTS noted a significant redistribution of traffic towards new stations in connection with the launch of BCL.
According to the company, the top 10 metro stations in terms of passenger traffic growth include BKL stations such as Elektrozavodskaya, Aviamotornaya, Lefortovo, Nizhegorodskaya, Vorontsovskaya, Novatorov Street, Vernadskogo Prospekt, “Michurinskiy prospekt”, “Business center” and “Khoroshevskaya”.
Ryazansky Prospekt, Volgogradsky Prospekt, Proletarskaya and Lermontovsky Prospekt from Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya Line, Avtozavodskaya from Zamoskvoretskaya Line, Kosino from Nekrasovskaya Line, Krasnoselskaya from Sokolnicheskaya Line and Arbatskaya from Filevskaya Line were unloaded the most. Kalininskaya line of the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line and Prospekt Mira.
MTS emphasized that before the opening of the new BCL stations, it laid special cables in the tunnels between the stations to ensure the operation of the mobile communication network, and installed modern base stations in the lobbies and platforms.
