Almost 90% of workers in Russia started their careers in the service industry. This was demonstrated by an AZIMUT Hotel survey among young people whose aim was to learn the opinion of novice professionals on promising starting positions and to identify the most promising areas for growth.
According to the results, 42% of respondents want to start a career in the restaurant or delivery business. 22% consider SMM and IT, 10% focus on the hotel business, and for 26%, the most important thing in choosing a business is the prospect of growth.
The majority – 41% – but are ready to combine work with education if they do not have enough money to live. At the same time, 35% believe that working in parallel with studying is the right approach. While 19% of respondents are sure that study only interferes with their studies, 5%, on the contrary, consider study a priority, putting it in the background.
Opinions are divided on the question of whether it is difficult to find a job at the beginning of a career with no experience: 53% believe there are few options; 26% are sure they will always receive an offer; 21% said “he who seeks always finds”.
The general consensus is that working even in a low position at a large company brings invaluable experience. Therefore, 31% of respondents are determined to acquire new skills, 24% believe in endless growth with continuing education and bonuses, 18% are ready to learn only about the structure of the company, and for 27% it is only important to earn money for travel.
“Interestingly, 87% of respondents can name successful acquaintances who have started their careers in positions such as refueling, delivery man, hotelier or similar. Marina Popova, the company’s Human Resources Director in Russia, said, “I can say that young people do not hesitate to experience their first experience in the service sector, and especially in the accommodation sector.”
