Scientists from the University of Nicosia (Cyprus) have found that trying to understand your partner’s needs, discussing problems and showing more interest with him are the most popular and effective strategies for fostering close relationships in a couple. The result of the research study was published in the journal. magazine Evolutionary psychology.
The study’s authors recruited more than 700 participants who completed a survey on strategies for fostering close relationships. In this framework, the participants listed the tactics they used and evaluated their effectiveness. Thus, a total of 81 methods were identified, which were more broadly divided into 14 groups.
As it turned out, trying to understand a partner’s needs, discussing issues, and showing more attention were some of the most commonly used and most effective ways to improve intimate life. At the same time, self-improvement and improving appearance, on the contrary, were the least effective and popular.
According to the researchers, the effectiveness of these strategies was determined by the partners’ display of character traits such as kindness and understanding.
