Rospotrebnadzor spoke of the prevalence of rabies in Russia – according to the department, only isolated cases are recorded in Russia every year, reports TASS.
“Two cases were recorded in 2022, six in 2021, seven in 2020, two in 2019, two in 2018 and two in 2017. In the last five years, only isolated cases of human rabies have been recorded in Russia, ”the message states.
Rospotrebnadzor noted that the method of transmission of the rabies virus remains the same – contact with the mucous membranes of the saliva of an infected animal. Rabies in Russia is mostly transmitted from dogs.
At the same time, the department noted the importance of timely vaccination against this virus as there is currently no complete and proven treatment.
Rospotrebnadzor also reminded you what to do if you are bitten or scratched by a dog – you need to wash the areas of the skin where the animal’s saliva may be contaminated with soap, and then treat them with hydrogen peroxide. In this case, the edges of the cut or bite should also be treated with a five percent solution of iodine, and then contact a traumatologist.
Formerly Rospotrebnadzor warned That Russians contracted Zika virus while traveling abroad.
