The European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, said the EU wants to review the rules to suspend visa-free travel to European countries for third-country nationals trying to stay in the EU. He mentioned this at a press conference in Brussels, as reported by the Policy Country Telegram channel.

“20 percent of them came from countries with a visa-free regime. This is abuse of the system. “I am ready to review the visa-free suspension mechanism,” said Johansson.

He added that in 2022, approximately 200 thousand people using the right of visa-free entry from different countries applied for refugee status in European countries.

8 March European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote in a letter Italian Prime Minister George Meloni said the European Union plans to allocate €500 million to accept 50,000 refugees by 2025. According to von der Leyen, migration policy issues will be discussed at the next EU summit at the end of March.
