In November last year, the boy was hospitalized for bronchiolitis. Doctors placed a central venous catheter for him and accidentally damaged an artery.

According to his mother, Joanne Segun, her son’s leg immediately turned pale and cold. A blood clot formed in the child, the doctors injected him with a drug that thins the blood. The boy remained in the hospital, but his condition continued to worsen.

On the fourth day, the mothers said that they were not a pediatric vascular surgeon, so they had to go to England.

The family was taken by ambulance plane to London, where the boy had an emergency operation to restore blood flow. The child’s leg was amputated due to extensive damage to the muscles and tissues.

The boy’s mother told reporters the results of the operation: “It makes my heart ache… I believe the Maltese doctors have ruined his life.”

Returning to Australia, the family filed a complaint with the hospital where the child was treated. They accuse doctors of negligence, arguing that they should be informed in time that an operation is needed to restore the artery.

Joanne added that Zane is active and just starting to crawl.

Anne hopes that everything will be fine with her when she grows up.

“I used to take pictures of her legs and I will always remember these pictures,” the woman shared.
