South Korea will help Turkey build shelters for survivors of major earthquakes. It has been reported Yonhap News Agency.

The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting on ways to provide assistance to Turkey.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Park Jin, stated that the authorities will send a third humanitarian aid unit and will help with temporary shelter for the Turks left on the street.

“This is the first time that our government has provided assistance, from search and rescue operations to the liquidation stage of the consequences of natural disasters …”, stressed the head of the South Korean diplomatic department.

In total, Seoul will send 500 shipping containers to be used as temporary shelters.

On February 6, 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes occurred in southeast Turkey, affecting Syria as well. Turkish authorities called the earthquake “the disaster of the century”.
