Russian geneticists talked about the creation of antibiotics against resistant bacteria. Reported by the Ministry of Education and Science.

Over the past few decades, doctors and microbiologists have often expressed concern about the mass use of antibiotics without serious need. This causes bacterial populations to develop resistance to certain groups of antibiotics, and as a result doctors have to look for new tools or approaches.

In this regard, Sirius University Microorganism Genetics Laboratory experts are looking for ways to overcome resistance to antimicrobial agents. Work in the new laboratory is carried out in various directions. That’s why scientists are looking for promising targets to create chemicals that potentiate the action of antibiotics. This is achieved through a combined approach that combines traditional microbiological techniques with high-throughput DNA sequencing. Another project aims to create protein antimicrobials. Based on protein engineering approaches, drugs against pathogens will be created Staphylococcus aureus And streptococcal pneumonia. In addition, the laboratory will conduct basic research into the regulation of a number of bacterial immune systems. This groundbreaking work will allow scientists to better understand the interaction between viruses and bacteria, which will provide doctors with new tools to fight disease.

Within the framework of the national project “Science and Universities”, the project “Development of approaches for the prevention and overcoming of bacterial resistance to antimicrobial drugs” is carried out with the participation of the Ministry of National Education and Science.
