There is an increase in sales of drugs to normalize digestion in Russia. This trend was uncovered by SBER EAPTEKA and SberHealth online health service. “socialbites.ca” got acquainted with the results of the study.
Thus, the sale of preparations for normalizing digestion this winter has increased by almost a third (+30%). At the same time, according to the data obtained, people aged 25-32 years are more likely to experience diseases of the digestive system – 37% of the total number of online visits to gastroenterologists. In 2022, the number of consultations for people under the age of 18 increased by 12% compared to other age categories. The most common disease of the stomach is gastritis – 25% of the total number of visits to gastroenterologists suggest the presence of this disease.
The largest increase in demand for digestive health products last year occurred in October (+21%) and December 2022 (+11%). The most popular drugs for the normalization of the gastrointestinal tract have become means for balancing the intestinal microflora. They accounted for almost a third (31%) of sales in the category. In second place were drugs that reduce the activity of the acid factor (30%). The third – enzymes and digestive complexes (21%). The least demanded are drugs that affect the tone and motility of the gastrointestinal tract (15%) and choleretic drugs (3%).
“Most of the time, gastritis is asymptomatic because there are no pain receptors in the gastric mucosa. Peptic ulcer affects the deeper layers of the stomach, so it can manifest with abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting immediately after eating or for a while. The most common cause of gastritis and stomach ulcers is the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. Frequent use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen may also cause damage to the gastric mucosa. There are no specific foods to avoid for gastritis or ulcers. It is worth adhering to the principles of rational nutrition with a small individual correction. For example, to identify so-called food triggers – foods that cause discomfort after eating. During periods of exacerbation of diseases, treatment is selected individually, says Maria Dyuzheva, a gastroenterologist in the SberHealth medical online service.
