The Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs informed his American counterpart of his proposal, which was approved by his Turkish counterpart in December 2022. It was emphasized that the American side greatly appreciated this initiative.

Romanian and US diplomats also discussed “opportunities to increase stability through a strategic approach that will strengthen the Black Sea region’s status as an important trade and energy route”.

On February 13, a sea mine exploded on a beach in Batumi, probably brought by a current from one of the Ukrainian ports. The explosion occurred very close to the shore and was quite loud, heard in residential areas as well. Sappers is working at the scene, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs is investigating.
