Turkish edition Anatolia claims that statistically Sweden has one of the highest rates of gun violence in Western Europe.
The publication states that this figure is the result of a growing number of gangs and criminal groups responsible for the influx of illegal firearms.
Yugoslav-made weapons are fueling escalating violence in Sweden, according to a 2021 report by the Global Initiative to Combat Transnational Organized Crime. This is attributed to the legacy of the now-defunct so-called “Yugoslav mafia” that dominated Stockholm’s underworld throughout the 1990s.
